Japanese ink production reduced year after year, gravure ink production and sales fell last year

In 2019, the output of printing ink in Japan continued to decrease to 318000 tons, 4.8% lower than that of the previous year. Compared with the output in 2015 five years ago, the total decrease was 8.8%, showing a trend of successive year-on-year production reduction.
The output of general ink was 286000 tons, 3.8% lower than that of the previous year, and 6% lower than that of 2015. Among them, the output of lithographic ink and gravure ink is the largest among all kinds of lithographic printing ink.
Japan printing ink production enterprises (more than 4 employees) in 100. The large number of small and medium-sized enterprises is the characteristic of Japanese printing ink industry. In 2017, there were 51 ink production enterprises with 4-29 employees, accounting for 57% of the total, while only 11 large and medium-sized enterprises with more than 100 employees accounted for 12%. However, the sales volume of large and medium-sized enterprises accounts for 60% of the total sales volume, while the sales volume of small enterprises accounts for only 13% of the total sales volume.
