The American Forest Paper Association (AF & PA) recently released the “may 2021 printing and writing paper monthly report”. Total U.S. printing and writing paper shipments rose 11% year-on-year in May, the report said. The relevant data are as follows:
The total purchase of printing and writing paper increased by 6% year on year.
The total inventory level of printing and writing paper was basically flat (+ 0.3%) on a month on month basis.
Uncoated free paper (UFS) shipments increased 22% year-on-year, while inventory levels increased 2% month on month. UFS imports and exports increased by 10% and 25% respectively on a month on month basis.
The purchase volume of coated free paper (CFS) decreased by 16% year on year, while the inventory level decreased by 1% month on month. CFS imports decreased by 14% on a month on month basis, while exports increased by 32% on a month on month basis.
Coated mechanical paper (CM) shipments fell 14% year-on-year, while inventory levels increased 1% month on month. Cm imports decreased by 17% on a month on month basis, while exports increased by 5% on a month on month basis.
The purchase volume of uncoated machine paper (UM) increased by 16% year on year, and the inventory level decreased by 15% month on month. Um imports increased by 10% month on month, while exports decreased by 17% month on month.
According to the “monthly report of packaging paper and special packaging in May 2021″ released in the same period, the total shipment of packaging paper and special packaging in May increased by 5% year on year. From January to may, the total output increased by 2% year on year.
