The Lok Sabha, the house of Commons, announced that it would continue to increase the use of digital tools to reduce paper consumption. According to the Hindustan Times, the Bharatiya Janata used 21723 orders of paper in 2015 and sought anonymity. In 2021, the house of Commons used only 8374 reams of paper throughout the year, a decrease of 61%, that is, paper consumption fell to about one third of the level in 2015.
In January this year, India launched the digital sansad application, which provides parliamentarians with a 360 degree view of legislative activities and services, and helps them send questions and notifications digitally. Members will no longer send questions or motions in writing to the Parliamentary Office. Copies of announcements, lists of issues and budget documents or bills have also ceased to be available in printed copies and have been transferred to online forms.
