Tense relations between Russia and Ukraine: Ukraine may face paper shortage

According to some Ukrainian government officials and local media reports, due to the recent restrictions on imports of Russian goods, Ukraine may face a shortage of paper this year. In recent years, there have been many conflicts between Ukraine and Russia. Due to Ukraine’s long-term economic dependence on Russia, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has affected many industries in Ukraine.

For the Ukrainian paper products market, the biggest concern at present is related to the newsprint field, because the interruption of Russian newsprint supply to Ukraine may pose a threat to the local publishing industry in Ukraine.

At the same time, due to the low output of local newsprint in Ukraine, which can not meet the local demand, the situation of relying on Russia for a long time makes the current situation very passive.

Sergei chernyavsky, a member of the board of directors of the association of Periodical Publishers of Ukraine, has recently confirmed this point. According to him, Ukraine’s newsprint mainly relies on imports from Russia, and the latest import ban has led to the unemployment of up to 25000 people in the industry, which may also lead to a sharp decline in the publication and sales of Ukrainian newspapers.
