Russia’s export of coniferous wood to Europe increased significantly

According to foreign media reports, in the second quarter of this year, Russia’s export growth of coniferous wood to relevant European purchasing countries was higher than that in the same period last year.

According to the Russian customs authorities, shipments to Estonia increased by 62% to 272762 cubic meters. Exports to Germany (+ 32%, 230653 m3), Finland (+ 12%, 181337 m3), Britain (+ 64%, 149351 m3) and the Netherlands (+ 43%, 123799 m3) all showed double-digit growth. The volume of coniferous wood exported to the 11 most important purchasing countries in Europe reached 1396000 cubic meters, an increase of 53%. Exports to the six Central Asian republics increased by one third to 1457000 cubic meters. In contrast, deliveries to China fell 11% to 4.668 million cubic meters. The proportion in total exports decreased by 12 percentage points to 56%.

From April to June, Russia exported a total of 8.935 million cubic meters of coniferous wood, with an export value of 1.643 billion US dollars. Although the export volume increased by 8%, the export volume soared by 50%. However, this increase can only partially compensate for the decline (- 13%) in the first quarter. The cumulative export volume in the first six months of this year was 14.911 million cubic meters, a decrease of 2% over the same period last year. Exports increased by 30% to US $2.607 billion.

Among the total exports, 7.891 million cubic meters were sold to Chinese customers, a year-on-year decrease of 12%. Shipments to Japan also decreased by 19% (415620 m3). Exports to Central Asian countries increased by 3% (24.36 million cubic meters) to 2.368 million cubic meters. Exports to Europe’s most important importer increased by 38% to 2.395 million cubic meters.
