Orders for Korean enterprises’ new year calendar decreased significantly

According to South Korea’s Asia daily, at the end of each year, many large South Korean enterprises and banks will give customers new year calendars free of charge, but this year, many people say that the places where they can get calendars are significantly reduced. Even if it is distributed, it is more difficult to get the calendar than in previous years. For printing enterprises, the new year calendar was originally a big order at the end of each year, but the reduction of printing demand makes it more difficult for enterprises to operate.

According to the statistics of the printing information industry in Gyeonggi Province in collaboration with trade unions and printing enterprises, the printing orders of the new year calendar in 2022 are 20-30% lower than those in previous years, and some enterprises have not even received a single calendar printing business. Trade union officials said that judging from the situation of more than 220 trade union members and more than 1500 non member printing enterprises, the printing orders of the calendar will decrease significantly next year. Among them, the orders of major customers and enterprises decreased by 30%, and the orders of the financial industry decreased by about 20% to 30%. The celebrity also said that due to the increase in the use of smart phones and the contraction of the paper calendar market, calendar orders have basically decreased by 2% in recent years, but the depression in the industry like this year is the first time. He believes that with COVID-19′s long-term sustainability, sales of many businesses and banks will be reduced, and the benefits of free calendars will also be reduced.

The person in charge of an enterprise engaged in the printing industry in Shuiyuan area for more than 10 years said that no calendar order was received in 2021. The three public institutions that commissioned the production of 5 million won (about 27000 yuan) calendar the previous year did not order the calendar in 2021. Enterprise stakeholders said that since the operation of the printing plant, it was the first time that they could not receive calendar production orders.

According to the analysis, the decrease in calendar orders received by printing enterprises is mainly due to the decline in orders from “big customers” – the financial industry. Some banks adjusted the original policy of issuing free calendars to all customers to only VIP customers or active inquiry customers.

In addition, printing enterprises not only face the pressure of orders, but also worry about manpower problems. A large printing enterprise in Gyeonggi region said that December is the peak season for calendar ordering. In previous years, about 50 short-term part-time workers were generally found to bind and produce. Even if the labor cost was increased in 2021, it was difficult to recruit people. Meanwhile, dozens of people have the risk of spreading COVID-19 in the same smaller production space. Due to the shortage of manpower, the calendar ordered by the enterprise at the end of December last year can only be delivered in January 2022.
