Klabin recently announced that it will invest R $40 million in its Montealegre paper mill in Parana, Brazil, to develop and apply dispersed barrier technology, which can directly conduct barrier coating on the factory paperboard production line.
This investment will be used to modernize the coating machine of Montealegre unit, after which its annual production capacity will increase to 60000 tons. The technical solution is mainly characterized by dispersed barrier, which can not only help the paperboard to realize the barrier of water, steam and grease, but also reduce the use of additional packaging or application of additional coating and maintain the original characteristics of paper recycling and composting. In addition, barrier coating can be directly added to the paperboard machine in the future.
FL á vio deganutti, director of klabin paperboard, said: “klabin has been investing in sustainable barrier technology for more than a decade, has consolidated its market segment through solutions such as klafoldfz and klafoldgb, and has made a positive contribution to effectively avoiding the use of plastic barrier materials. This investment will expand klabin’s service areas of large-scale production, including refrigerated / frozen food (pizza, bullion, hamburger, meat, fish, sausage), industrial food (protein, broth, biscuits), washing powder, paper cups and more complex liquid food solutions. “
The transformation of the project is carried out in two stages. In the first stage, the application technology will be upgraded, and in the second stage, the production capacity will be increased and the development of new products, especially renewable energy products, will be strengthened.
“In the process of pursuing sustainability, optimizing the process involves innovation. We believe that the technological progress brought by this application mode is the first step towards online application. At that time, the barrier coating will be added directly to the paperboard machine.” Deganutti added.
