Puma phase II project is an important part of the development strategy of klabin paper industry from 2019 to 2023, with an investment of about 12.9 billion reais (about 16.4 billion yuan). The second paper machine is also under construction
While the first paper machine mp27 is started, the construction of the second paper machine of Puma phase II project has also been started. It is planned to be put into operation in 2023 and comply with all industry health and safety agreements. The second paper machine mp28, with an annual capacity of 460000 tons, will focus on paperboard production, consolidate klabin’s position as a global producer of paperboard for liquid (milk and fruit juice) and processed food (grain, chocolate, pizza, etc.), and can also be used for various types of packaging of personal and family care products (washing powder, toothpaste) and cans and bottles.

Puma phase II project has been committed to improving production capacity and reducing environmental impact. It is planned to build a sulfuric acid plant to produce various chemicals for pulp and paper production.
Another important measure is to build a biomass gasification plant, which will provide renewable fuels for lime kilns to replace fossil fuels. Turbine generators will also be installed in the gasification plant to convert the heat energy of steam (generated by biomass recovery and intensity boilers) into electric energy.
The largest private enterprise investment project in local history
In 1934, klabin established the first comprehensive pulp and paper mill in Brazil in Parana, and occupied an important position in the state. Since then, klabin has actively contributed to the local development of the state and led to strong economic growth.
Over the past decade, klabin has invested more than 20 billion reais in Parana. In addition, so far, puma phase II project has created more than 21300 direct and indirect jobs. During the construction phase, 76% of the workers lived in Parana. In order to start the first paper machine mp27, klabin employed 384 professionals. In the field of forestry, klabin hired 75 professionals to engage in logging and logistics.
During the construction of Puma phase II project, klabin also successively developed social projects such as education, family agriculture, public management, solid waste, entrepreneurship and action against violence against children and women in 12 nearby cities, with a total investment of about 12 million reais.
