Phil Woolley, Vice President of European Paper Business, said: “In view of the recent sharp rise in the energy market, the uncertainty faced by the upcoming winter and the impact on our supply costs, we have no choice but to increase the price accordingly. Later, we will continue to pay close attention to the latest situation, and will take all necessary measures to maintain the supply to customers. However, we cannot rule out the possibility that we need to further increase or charge surcharges at this stage.”
Sonoco Alcore mainly produces paper, paperboard, paper tubes and other products. It has 24 tube core factories and 5 paperboard factories in Europe.
The price of all specialty papers under Sappi Europe has risen

Rengo, a Japanese paper company, recently announced that it would adjust the price of its cardboard, other cardboard and corrugated packaging.
Since Rengo announced the price adjustment in November 2021, the global fuel price inflation has further intensified, and the cost of auxiliary materials and logistics has continued to rise, which has caused great pressure on Rengo. Although Rengo continues to maintain the price by completely reducing the cost, with the continued depreciation of the yen, it is difficult for Rengo to bear further cost increases by its own efforts. In addition, in addition to the price increase of paper, the price of wood for pulping in Europe has also increased. Take Sweden as an example: according to the data of the Swedish Forest Agency, compared with the first quarter of 2022, the delivery prices of sawn wood and logs for pulping in Sweden in the second quarter of 2022 have increased. The price of sawn timber increased by 3%, and the price of logs for pulping increased by nearly 9%.
In terms of regions, Norra Norland in Sweden saw the biggest increase in sawmill prices, with an increase of nearly 6%, followed by Svealand, with an increase of 2%. With regard to the price of logs for pulping, there are great regional differences. Sveland has the largest increase of 14%, while Nora Noran’s price has not changed.
