In 2020, the recovery rate of waste paper in the United States will reach 65.7%, and the recovery rate of OCC will reach 88.8%

On May 19, the American forest and Paper Association (AF & PA) announced that 65.7% of the paper consumed in the United States will be recycled in 2020. Over the past decade, the United States has maintained a high recovery rate of waste paper. Since 2009, the recovery rate of waste paper has reached or exceeded 63%, which is almost twice the recovery level of the United States in 1990.

In 2020, the consumption of waste box board corrugated paper (OCC) in the United States will reach a record 22.8 million tons, the recovery rate of OCC will reach 88.8%, and the average recovery rate in recent three years will be 92.4%.

Heidi Brock, President and chief executive officer of AF & PA, said: “in the year of the popularity of cowid-19, nearly two-thirds of waste paper has been recycled to produce new paper products.”
