Recently, according to the statistics of “Japan Paper Making Association”, the volume of corrugated paper exported from Japan to China and other Asian countries has increased significantly since this year due to the increasing demand of China.
According to the latest statistics released by the Japan Paper Making Association, Japan’s corrugated base paper export volume was 101000 tons in September, 2.5 times that of the same period last year. In the first three quarters of this year, Japan’s export volume of corrugated base paper was 618000 tons, an increase of 90% over the same period last year.
Since July this year, Japan’s corrugated paper export volume has increased significantly, especially to China, Thailand and Malaysia. According to the Japanese economic news, Chinese processing enterprises are purchasing corrugated base paper from Japan and other countries, which has boosted the export volume of Japanese corrugated base paper. Some Japanese enterprises said that the number of corrugated base paper exported to China has increased significantly recently.
According to the statistics of “Japan Paper Making Association”, China’s import volume of corrugated base paper from January to August this year was about 4.176 million tons, 2.4 times that of the same period last year.
Some analysts pointed out to the surging news reporters that behind the increase in China’s corrugated paper import volume, there are two levels of interaction between supply and demand.
First of all, with the development of digital economy and online shopping during the epidemic period, the demand for express packaging increased significantly. The State Post Office said recently that the number of express delivery services in China has exceeded 60 billion, of which the first three quarters increased by 27.9% year on year, far exceeding the level of the same period last year. According to the prediction, during the “double 11″ period this year, the express business will peak, and the daily average express business volume will reach 490 million pieces.
“Buy buy buy” is behind the huge demand for express packaging, express packaging mainly includes cartons, transparent tape, plastic foam, etc. corrugated paper is the main raw material of carton.
On the other hand, on the supply side, China’s waste paper import policy is gradually tightening, and the import volume of waste paper as raw material of corrugated paper is decreasing year by year. Waste paper accounts for about 60% of China’s paper industry fiber raw materials, one third of which is imported. According to the statistics of China Paper Association, China was once the world’s largest importer of waste paper.
However, since 2017, China has adopted a series of policies, such as the implementation plan on forbidding the entry of foreign garbage and promoting the reform of solid waste import management system, which has made it clear that by the end of 2020, China will gradually realize zero import of solid waste. Affected by relevant policies, China’s waste paper import volume has been shrinking year by year since 2017. In 2017, 2018 and 2019, they were 2572, 1703 and 10.36 million tons respectively, with a year-on-year decrease of 10%, 34% and 39%.
According to the statistics of “Japan ancient paper recycling promotion center”, from January to August 2020, China imported about 3.837 million tons of waste paper, which was half of the same period last year.
It is worth noting that the export price of corrugated base paper is actually cheaper than that in Japan. Even so, a large Japanese paper-making enterprise said in an interview with Japan economic news that “although the income is low, in order to maintain production, it is necessary to export.”
According to the National Bureau of statistics, the price of corrugated paper reached 3666.7 yuan / ton in the first ten days of October according to the market price monitoring of 50 kinds of important means of production in 9 categories in the national circulation field. Compared with the same period last year, the price of corrugated paper increased by 370 yuan or 11.22% year on year.
