China was once one of the most important garbage importing countries in the world. Due to the increasingly serious problems such as environmental pollution, the state has been cracking down on “foreign garbage import” in recent years. However, due to high profits, many enterprises still take the risk to import foreign garbage for processing and production.

In order to curb this phenomenon, China will completely ban the import of solid waste from 2021, and the Ministry of ecology and environment will no longer accept and approve applications related to solid waste import.

This year, the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress revised and passed the law on the prevention and control of environmental pollution by solid waste, which specifies that those who import solid waste into China or transfer hazardous waste through China will be fined between 500000 yuan and 5000000 yuan. The law on prevention and control of environmental pollution by solid waste will come into effect on September 1, 2020.
