Essity plans to build a new waste paper recycling workshop at its Prudhoe factory in the UK and further reduce the use of raw wood pulp for products such as toilet paper. The factory’s existing waste paper recycling workshop has a history of 50 years, and Essity plans to replace it with a new workshop and equip it with the latest recycling equipment to reduce energy costs and improve the company’s ability to utilize recycled fibers.
The project manager of the factory, Paul Oliver, stated: Essity has been moving towards sustainable development, with the production of toilet paper and wiping paper using recycled fibers being the core initiative. Products using recycled fibers are also popular among supermarkets and environmentally conscious shoppers. In the past, most of our waste pulp was made from office waste paper, but as the frequency of company email and PDF files increases, the demand for printing and copying decreases, resulting in a decrease in the quantity of office waste paper It is declining, and the policy of working at home after the COVID-19 epidemic has accelerated this trend. “
The project is expected to invest millions of pounds, and Essity has applied to the local government. If approved, the company’s waste paper recycling capacity will be improved, allowing for the use of lower grade recycled paper, such as recycled packaging cardboard, to save on the use of raw wood pulp.
