Chinese immigrants set up shop in Canada to promote Chinese papermaking and movable type printing

According to the report of Canada’s Sing Tao Daily, the owners of the movable type printing manual experience shop in langhaofang, Wanjin City, Canada, Xiaobai and Tim are from China. Two years ago, they decided to emigrate with their family. They learned that there was no similar handicraft experience shop in North America, so they came up with the idea of opening a shop in Canada.

There are more than 4000 kinds of Chinese characters available in the shop. In addition to movable type printing, guests can also experience papermaking, immortality flower making and Hanfu fitting.

Tim said that although this is a Chinese traditional culture experience shop, Chinese traditional culture is only a form of expression. Most customers come to the shop hoping to enjoy the process of calming down and being alone with themselves when doing handicrafts. For example, some couples can exchange memories through doing handicrafts.

After opening for just two months, Xiaobai said that the guests she met were very lovely, and some of them impressed her deeply. One of the guests got married last year and came to the experience shop to print her wedding vows in movable type as a gift to the other half; Another guest brought his old dog to the store, hoping to use a handful of his hair to mix pulp and paper, so that when his dog died, he could leave a memorial.

Tim said that he hopes to enter the local market in the future and spread these traditional skills in Canada, so that more local people can experience the charm of Chinese traditional culture.
