Brazil: pulp output close to record high

Brazil’s pulp output will reach 21 million tons in 2020, up 6.8% year-on-year, close to the highest in history, according to data released by the Brazilian forestry and Wood Industry Association (IB á) on Thursday. The annual total export was 15.6 million tons, up 6.1% year on year.

In the fourth quarter of last year, Brazil’s pulp output reached 5.3 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 7.8%, and its export reached 4 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 12.7%.

In 2020, Brazil will export about 8 billion US dollars of wood based products, including 6 billion US dollars of fiber, 1.7 billion US dollars of paper and 276 million US dollars of wood board.

According to the agency’s data, China is still Brazil’s main pulp export destination. As the price of raw materials decreased, the export volume to China in 2020 was US $2.9 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 11.7%.

Latin America is Brazil’s largest export market of wood and paper, with wood exports of 142 million US dollars and paper exports of 976 million US dollars.

Affected by the epidemic, in 2020, the sales of printing paper in Brazil will be 1.1 million tons, a decrease of nearly 20%. Tissue sales reached 1.3 million tons, up 1.6%. The annual sales volume of packaging paper was 1.8 million tons, an increase of 0.3%. The sales volume of wood boards was 7.1 million cubic meters, up 6.6% year on year.
