A new round of investment in South American paper industry under the epidemic situation

According to foreign media reports, in the next few years, there will be 8 projects under construction and new construction in the pulp industry in South America, and the central and South American country Paraguay will also enter the pulp industry. The scale of the eight construction projects will reach 18 billion US dollars at the current exchange rate. Among them, the new investment projects in Brazil will exceed 10 billion US dollars, and the oligopoly position of Brazilian paper industry will be further consolidated.

It is said that from the end of 2022, the pulp industry will continue to receive a large amount of investment. In order to avoid excessive supply of pulp and long-term price pressure, investors and suppliers are expected to implement new merger and reorganization in the industry.

According to the report, the annual output of short fiber pulp and water-soluble pulp with Eucalyptus as raw materials will reach 14.8 million tons, equivalent to 1.3 times of the output of Suzano, the world’s largest pulp manufacturer, in 2021.

In the announced short fiber and water-soluble pulp production line construction project, Chile Arauco paper industry will start from the fourth quarter of 2021, annual production capacity will reach 1.27 million tons; from the fourth quarter of 2021, Brazil’s bracell paper industry will also expand its annual production capacity to 2.8 million tons.

Paracel paper is the first to enter the pulp industry in Paraguay. In the second half of 2022 or early 2023, the company’s production line in Concepcion will be put into operation. As partners, zapag, a fuel distributor from Paraguay, and gilindas, a Swedish investor, have established bases in kuyaba, Mato Grosso, Brazil, and grand camp, South Mato Grosso, to ensure the supply of Eucalyptus, the raw material of pulp.

The EUCA energy paper production line, invested by industrialist Gilberto goelner and built in upper Aragua, Mato Grosso, will be put into operation at the end of 2023, but there are still problems in the supply of Eucalyptus as a raw material.
